Gluteoplasty(Buttock Implants)

The demand for silicone buttock implants, also known as gluteoplasty, has increased significantly in recent years.

This procedure is indicated for patients who have very small buttocks that are disproportionate to their body frame.

Buttock implants add volume and help create a more balanced and proportional body contour.

Candidates for gluteoplasty include men and women with small, disproportionate buttocks who do not have significant excess weight or pronounced sagging of the buttocks.

In the latter cases, gluteoplasty may be combined with other procedures, such as liposuction and buttock lifting, to achieve better results.

TYPES OF IMPLANTS

The choice of implants is made together with the plastic surgeon, who will determine—after a careful physical examination—the ideal implant to ensure natural and harmonious results.

Gluteal implants may vary in size and shape.

They are made of a more resistant type of silicone, designed to withstand pressure from sitting, lying down, and performing intense physical activities.

THE SURGERY

Surgical time varies from patient to patient, but it generally lasts approximately two hours. Depending on the case, the surgeon may choose spinal anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

RECOVERY
POSTOPERATIVE CARE

  • The use of compression garments is recommended, as they help the healing process by preventing fluid accumulation and controlling swelling.

  • It is important to keep the area clean. Patients should shower and dry themselves with a clean towel each time they use the bathroom.

  • In some cases, drains may be used to prevent fluid buildup. These drains are usually removed within two to three days.

  • For the first 15 days, it is important to avoid excessive movement and lying on the back, to prevent pressure on the surgical area.

  • Most patients can return to work in approximately two weeks. Intense physical activities are usually allowed around three months after surgery.

  • Initial results can be noticed shortly after the procedure, but final results become more apparent after a few months, once swelling subsides and healing is complete.

TECHNIQUES

The implant is placed inside the gluteus maximus muscle.

This intramuscular technique, developed in Brazil, keeps the implant firmly in place and makes it nearly imperceptible to both sight and touch.

Additionally, this technique helps prevent capsular contracture, as the implant is naturally massaged by the gluteal muscle.

TYPES OF INCISION

There are two types of incisions:

The intergluteal incision, where the scar is hidden in the crease between the buttocks, and the “seagull wing” incision, used when the procedure is combined with a buttock lift.
