Vaginal Rejuvenation

Over time, the female body goes through several changes — whether due to hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, aging, or even genetic factors — and, of course, the intimate area is also part of this process.

Loss of firmness, discomfort during intercourse, asymmetries of the labia, or reduced vaginal lubrication are common concerns. Today, however, these issues can be safely treated with excellent results through vaginal rejuvenation.

What is
vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation encompasses a range of aesthetic and functional procedures focused on the female intimate area, aiming to improve appearance, restore elasticity, and promote both physical and emotional well-being.

Treatments may include vulvar lightening, improved vaginal lubrication, reduction of laxity in the labia majora, and stimulation of collagen production — often without the need for surgery. It is also a safe and effective way to address common menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, and intimate discomfort.

Why consider it?

From the age of 30 onward, collagen production begins to decline, affecting the intimate area as well. During perimenopause and menopause, this loss is intensified by decreased estrogen levels, leading to vaginal atrophy, dryness, and reduced elasticity.

Vaginal rejuvenation works to restore both the function and aesthetics of this area, helping women regain comfort, confidence, and overall well-being.

Labiaplasty:
vaginal rejuvenation surgery

Among the most sought-after procedures is labiaplasty (also known as nymphoplasty), which treats hypertrophy of the labia minora.

When the labia minora become excessively large, they may cause embarrassment, pain during sexual intercourse, and discomfort when wearing underwear. Labiaplasty corrects this asymmetry, providing a more harmonious appearance and restoring the patient’s self-confidence.

Benefits of
vaginal rejuvenation procedures

Beyond aesthetics—which is certainly an important factor—vaginal rejuvenation is also closely related to a woman’s quality of life and intimate health. Discover the main benefits:

  • Improved self-esteem and confidence
  • Reduced pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse
  • Increased natural lubrication
  • Correction of asymmetries in the labia
  • Vulvar lightening
  • Reduction of urinary incontinence
  • Improved sexual function and pleasure
  • Decrease in urinary infections and recurrent vaginal discharge
  • Relief from itching, burning sensations, and vulvar fissures
  • Treatment of conditions such as lichen simplex chronicus and lichen sclerosus

Who is eligible for
vaginal rejuvenation?

Intimate rejuvenation procedures may be recommended for women aged 18 and older who experience:

  • Physical or aesthetic discomfort in the genital area
  • Vaginal atrophy or dryness (common after childbirth, during perimenopause, and menopause)
  • Pain or burning during sexual intercourse
  • Mild urinary incontinence
  • Itching, burning, or recurrent infections
  • The desire to improve the appearance or functionality of the intimate area

Above all, it is essential to have realistic expectations and seek a qualified professional who can evaluate each case on an individual basis.

How is the procedure performed and
what is the recovery time?

The first step is a thorough medical evaluation. During this consultation, I can determine which techniques are most appropriate, always respecting the patient’s anatomy and personal goals.

Labiaplasty, for example, takes an average of 40 minutes and is usually performed under epidural anesthesia with sedation, allowing the patient to return home on the same day. The procedure removes excess tissue from the labia minora, always prioritizing functionality and aesthetic results.

Techniques that may be used

Intimate rejuvenation treatments may include one or more of the following approaches:

  • Vaginal and vulvar laser
  • Intimate radiofrequency
  • Surgical procedures such as nymphoplasty and clitoroplasty
  • Intimate peeling and vulvar lightening
  • Labia majora filler
  • Pelvic floor physical therapy
  • Pompoir (pelvic floor strengthening) exercises
  • Hormone replacement therapy (when indicated)

Each technique has specific indications and can be combined for more comprehensive results.

Recovery

Although recovery depends on each patient’s anatomy and the technique used, vaginal rejuvenation generally involves a smooth and comfortable recovery process. Below are some important points to consider:

  • Physical activities should be resumed gradually, avoiding exercises that put pressure on the area (such as cycling)
  • Sexual intercourse should only be resumed after approximately 30 days, with medical clearance
  • Final aesthetic results are typically seen around 6 months, although noticeable improvements appear as early as 15 days
  • Mild swelling or bruising may occur in the first few days
  • Women who work seated can usually return to work within 3 to 5 days
  • For those who work standing or walk frequently, rest for up to 3 weeks is recommended
