Botulinum Toxin

As time goes by, our bodies naturally reduce the production of collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin elasticity.

The demand for non-surgical treatments that reduce and prevent skin aging and the appearance of unwanted wrinkles is very common. Among them, the most sought-after procedures are facial fillers and botulinum toxin.

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN?

Botulinum toxin is a substance produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When industrially processed, it is purified and can be used for a wide range of therapeutic purposes. Its aesthetic use is one of the most well-known and widely performed, but it is also highly recommended for the treatment of hyperhidrosis, that is, excessive sweating of the hands, feet, and underarms.

WHO CAN UNDERGO THE TREATMENT?

WHO CAN UNDERGO THE TREATMENT?

Aesthetic treatment with botulinum toxin can be performed from the age of 25 onward, in two ways: for prevention or correction.

We primarily use this substance to treat dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by facial expressions — that is, by muscle movement. These are commonly known as “expression lines.”

Botulinum toxin acts directly on the muscle, inhibiting its movement and, as a result, softening expression lines and/or helping to prevent them. This substance provides a deeper treatment compared to currently available anti-wrinkle creams.

Botulinum toxin is most effective in treating dynamic wrinkles. For skin laxity, it can be combined with other procedures, such as dermal fillers and facial rejuvenation surgeries.

MAIN CAUSES OF
DYNAMIC WRINKLES

Sun exposure

Smoking

Poor diet

Natural contraction of facial muscles

RECOVERY
POST-PROCEDURE AND CARE

  • Many patients fear that botulinum toxin may cause a “frozen” or overly stiff appearance. This can occur if the application is performed by unqualified professionals. When the practitioner has proper expertise, they understand the correct dosage needed to ensure natural-looking results while preserving facial expressions.

  • Results begin to appear within 4 to 5 days after the first application and may last between 4 and 6 months, depending on the individual.

  • No specific post-procedure care is required. Daily activities can be resumed normally.

  • Small bruises may occur but usually disappear within a few days.

  • The procedure does not leave scars.

THE PROCEDURE

Botulinum toxin is injected directly into the muscle using a very fine needle. Topical anesthetics are usually applied to minimize discomfort, so the patient feels only small pinpricks.

Pain sensitivity varies from person to person, but most patients report that the discomfort during the procedure is completely tolerable.
